“I have used this camera a couple of times since receiving it for Christmas. I have used both the strap mount for my vented bicycle helmet as well as the permanent stick on mount for my dual sport motorcycle helmet. In both cases, the mounts work as well as the camera. I still have the previous generation GoPro HERO in standard definition, but not in the wide field of view lens configuration like the current HD version. I like the wide field of view of this HD model. It is great at giving a very good view of both the trail as will as your handlebar movements while riding both my mountain bike or motorcycle. The quality of the video is fantastic. The files do get large, but that is to be expected with the high resolution of this camera. I have been using a 16GB SDHC card and have filed up about half of it on one battery charge. I would recommend a high speed card reader to improve the download times from the card. A 12 min video was nearly a gigabyte. The battery last I think longer than the previous standard definition camera which ran on AAA batteries. I think that I will buy an additional battery someday for long rides with lots of action.”

Type: There are so many types of martial arts uniforms out there on the market. It really isn’t uncommon to see new students who go to martial arts schools in Maryland wearing the wrong uniform in the beginning of starting classes. There have been students that wear judo or karate uniforms for Brazilian jiu jitsu. They may look similar to the untrained eye but the material is very different. Karate and lower quality judo uniforms are much thinner and not really suited for Brazilian jiu jitsu.  Even though the judo uniform is weaved the sleeves are more open leaving the BJJ student susceptible to being thrown.

Color: In the beginning color does not really matter unless the school that you are training in is strict about the color so you should pick a color that makes you feel comfortable. As time goes on if you plan on competing at international tournaments, they are very strict about gi color and will only accept white, blue and black.

Weave: Most Brazilian jiu jitsu gi’s come in two weaves, single and double. The single weave uniform is good for beginners and experts. Single weave uniforms are lightweight and durable that can last for years. Double weave gi’s are very heavy but last forever and seem indestructible. Double weave gi’s are hard to grip and hard to feed for chokes making them good competition gi’s. Most martial arts schools in Maryland would recommend the student gets a single weave gi to begin with. 

The Brazilian jiu jitsu gi selection can be extremely tedious if students get distracted by all the features of the gi. The student should also get a gi that they don’t mind wearing for long while. 

It seems every year we have the hottest/coldest/wettest/driest/whateverest year/month/day/half hour since records began (look up the Texas Sharpshooter, it’s always going to be the somethingest something even if it’s the most average year since records began). If we accept that the weather’s going to veer from one extreme to the other every year is there something stopping us getting prepared for it before it happens? This year Brighton and Hove Council has less grit than it had last winter. Remember last winter? A lot of Brighton’s were virtually impassable for over a week because nobody had made the proper provision for snow. In January. The state of the roads meant there was no mobility cars were careening all over the streets, the road up to the County hospital was the only one consistently clear, darkly ironic since if the other roads and pavements had been gritted the hospital might not have been such a necessity. The reasoning the council put forward for this debacle is that in Sweden they know it’s going to happen every year so they can budget for it. What happens to it if you don’t use grit one year? Does it go off? Does it melt in the sun? You might want to put snow chains on your Nissan NV200, go over to Motability and see if they can do studded tyres for mobility scooters

in Scandinavia fewer elderly people die from hypothermia than in Britain. A lack of planning and the conformity of the British who are afraid to turn the heating up because of the usury prices the gas and electric companies charge. If you’re old, and your cold, turn the central heating up and burn the bills, what are they going to do, send you to prison? At least you’ll be warm there and you’ll be dead before they send the bailiffs around anyway so live it up!
